R.E.A.L. Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are required to act in the best interests of our learners at all times, as described in our “Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy”.
We recognise our duty under the Education Act 2002 to make arrangements to ensure that functions are carried out with a view to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
It is the intention of the procedures within our policy to ensure that the appropriate action is taken immediately where it is believed a student may be at risk or it is alleged that a student is suspected of being abused.
The prime concern at all times must be the interests and safety of the student(s).
Operation Encompass
R.E.A.L. Education works in partnership with Multi Agency Safeguarding Hubs and the Police as part of Operation Encompass. This is a national scheme, with the Department for Education and Home Office endorsement.
Operation Encompass is a unique police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership, which involves the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic violence incident.
Operation Encompass will ensure that the Dedicated Safeguarding Lead is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident, should this be necessary.
