R.E.A.L. Sports Lead’s England Call up!
Tristram Whitman, the Sports Lead at R.E.A.L. Glapwell in Chesterfield, has been called up to the England Veterans Football Team for the Seniors World Cup in Thailand.
Tristram, who teaches courses including BTEC Level 1 in Sports and Active Leisure and Sports Leaders Award Level 1 to learners at Glapwell, found out about his place in the England team at the beginning of May, and flies out to Thailand with the rest of the squad at the end of the month.
Tristram began playing football at a semi-professional level with Arnold Town Football Club when he was 17. Now 37, he earned his call up to the England seniors squad by playing veterans football for Basford United Football Club.
Tristram said: “I am really proud and slightly overwhelmed at this opportunity. I have accomplished quite a lot of things in football, such as promotion to league two, playing for England C (the football team that represents England at non-league level) and playing against Chelsea in the FA cup 4th round, but this would probably rate this as my most surprising and greatest achievement!”
Richard Smith, Director at R.E.A.L. Education said: “Everyone at R.E.A.L. is so proud of Tristram for what he has achieved and wish him the best of luck for the tournament.
“We are so fortunate at R.E.A.L. to have such expertise in our teaching staff – our learners are being taught by a sportsman who’s skills have been recognised by his country – what a benefit to their learning!”
